Hidden Mountains
Letterpress printed from photopolymer plates onto handmade mulberry paper, Hidden Mountains contains 10 seven-inch drawings of male figures in various postures, reminiscent of Buddhist iconography. The printed images are hand-embellished with color, and the book covers are letterpress printed paste papers in purple, blue and gold, making each copy unique. A poem on the last page, a paean to Japanese Zen Philosopher Eihei Dogen’s “Water and Mountains Sutra,” completes the mood of the project.
Artist Rory Golden has a master of fine arts in Book Arts from the University of Alabama and has been an artist in residence most recently at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Yaddo. He was a 2007 National Academy of Art Abbey Mural Workshop Fellow and a 2007 multi-media artist in residence at Brooklyn Community Access Television.
