Borges & I

This visual pun, created as an accordion fold book, presents black text offset printed on black paper with blind embossing. The piece reflects Nobel Laureate Jorge Luis Borges’ thoughts on reading, writing and the onset of his own blindness.

At first, the reader is confronted with a seemingly unreadable book. Even at close inspection, the text is not obvious. Gradually, the tactile experience of the work, similar to reading Braille, becomes apparent. The somber mood created by the darkness of the work begins to produce a sense of empathy with Borges and his struggle to understand the possibilities of a changing condition.
