Pamela Wood
The Ch’i of Me
The Ch’i of Me features 12 die-cut, cotton cloth-covered paper kimono shapes tied together with an obi (sash) cut from a Japanese kimono. Japanese, watercolor, commercial art and handmade papers are found throughout the piece. The lettering is in the artist’s handwriting. Quotations used in the text are from The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting (Princeton University Press, 1978), translated by Mai-mai Szu.
Artist Pamela Wood said: “Why did I choose this for my book? In the kimono history, the kimono was also worn as clothing in China as well as Japan. With this sharing, I am sharing some very inspiring thoughts that universally reflect into my life. I honor both cultures, China and Japan, and am thankful.”
