Winter/Rice/Tea Strain
Written by Daphne Marlatt, a well-known Canadian poet, novelist, theorist and university instructor, this volume is subtitled: 3 new poems for Roy Kiyooka. Roy Kiyooka (1926–1994) was a well-known Vancouver painter, poet and photographer. The piece was letterpress printed with each text page connected to a white band, creating an accordion fold that extends two feet when fully open. Four text pages made of Wausau Royal Fiber 80 pound recycled paper, with alternating “Blueberry” and “Sage” papers, were used to construct the fold-out sculptured piece. A linoleum cut of a Japanese tea bowl in blue with the title in green decorate the cover and linocut on the inside dedication page.
