Word Finder: A Study in Volvelles

Word Finder is a collection of “volvelles,” (devices with movable circles originally used to ascertain the rising and setting of the sun and moon). The book has an exposed spine binding and boards covered with ledger paper. The inner pages and all the “volvelles” are printed on mylar.

Part of the fun of reading this book involves spinning the various wheels to see what words can be created, or even if words can be created, and what possible meanings the reconfigured text may represent. Each spin of each wheel can produce frustration, delight and an entirely new appreciation for otherworldly language.
