Site Readings
“He was a one book man. Some men have only one book in them, others a library.” – Sidney Smith (1771-1825)
To create Site Readings, Ann George examined the values that books have inherited in our culture and the changes they have encountered. George used images of books in public spaces, such as in statuary paintings and as elements of architectural inlay. The text consists of quotations similar to the one above that comment on the various roles books play in society. The 14-page saddle stitch pamphlet is housed in plain board covers. The project was funded by the Women’s Studio Workshop in New York and the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
