Access Plus Services for People with Disabilities
The Cerritos Library is committed to offering equal access to materials and services and a quality experience when visiting the Library, regardless of a person’s physical ability. The building is designed by Charles Walton and Associates to be ADA compliant.
A variety of products, including special furniture and adaptive technology, are available to assure quality access to information for disabled individuals. Equipment and other materials related to ADA access are identified with the Access Plus logo. Anyone interested in using these Access Plus products may inquire at the Adult Reference Desk on the second floor for assistance. Library staff will assist in answering questions and giving instructions on the use of these products.
The following products will assist individuals with visual and learning disabilities:
- Kurzweil 3000 can scan printed text and convert it into electronic format. Speech synthesis enables the scanned text to be read aloud. It can also read directly from the Internet and has foreign language capability.
- Optelec is a special device for magnifying printed materials.
- Windows assistive technologies, including a magnifier, narrator and on-screen keyboard.
Earphones are available for purchase at the Friends Bookstore.
