Storycorps: Voices of Cerritos – A Celebration of 70 Years

In honor of the City of Cerritos’ 70th anniversary, the Cerritos Library invites community members to take part in Voices of Cerritos — A Celebration of 70 Years, a special StoryCorps storytelling program celebrating the people and moments that shaped our hometown.

Participants will have the opportunity to record meaningful conversations with family, friends, colleagues, or neighbors, preserving personal memories and community history for future generations. Recording sessions will consist of two participants, guided by trained library staff, following the StoryCorps model of open-hearted dialogue and shared storytelling. Each recording session will take 30 to 40 minutes.

The first session of recordings will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in the Library’s Board Room. To reserve an interview time, please contact Library Services Manager Eric Cardoso at (562) 916-1342. Select recordings will be added to the Library’s local history collection and submitted to the StoryCorps Archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Join us to honor Cerritos’ journey—from its early days to the vibrant community it is today—and ensure every voice becomes part of our shared story. Voices of Cerritos – a Celebration of 70 Years was developed as a companion to the Making History, Making Change Lecture Series, organized by Smithsonian Affiliations as part of the Smithsonian’s Our Shared Future: 250.
