  • Earth Month Celebration

    April is Earth Month, a time to celebrate and protect our planet. Join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 for fun activities celebrating the Earth! The activities are open to all ages and registration is not required.

           

    STORYTIME

    Join us for a special Earth Month-themed storytime in the Little Theater. The storytime will be held at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Space is limited to 40 participants.

     

    The following activities will be held outside the Cerritos Library:

     

    PRESSED FLOWER BOOKMARKS

    Participants will design a pressed flower bookmark. This craft will be led by students from the STEM Up 4 Youth Mission Evergreen organization. While supplies last.

     

    PLANET EARTH ROCKS!

    Celebrate Earth Month by decorating and painting a rock for your garden or space. Add messages or symbols to show your love and care for the planet. While supplies last.

     

    RECYCLE FLOWER CRAFT

    Join us as we create an adorable flower using recycled water bottles. While supplies last.

     

    SUCCULENTS 101

    Learn about the importance of succulents, then use a biodegradable pot to decorate and plant your own. While supplies last.

     

    UV BRACELET

    Join us as we create an ultraviolet light detection bracelet. While supplies last.

             

    KOALA CRAFT

    Join us as we create a koala using recycled magazines and newspapers. While supplies last.

  • Be a Volunteen this summer at the Cerritos Library!

    Be a Volunteen this summer at the Cerritos Library! Volunteer opportunities are open to students ages 13 and over in grades 7-12 who have a valid Cerritos Library card. The summer session will run from Monday, June 2 through Friday, August 1. Volunteen duties include shelving library materials, helping with arts and crafts projects, monitoring the children’s computer workstations, operating the Friends Bookstore, assisting with library programs and working the Summer Reading Program Office. Applications will be available beginning Monday, March 10 at the Circulation Desk. For more information please call (562) 916-1338 or email volunteen@cerritos.us.

  • Writers Festival presented by the Friends of the Cerritos Library

    The Friends of the Cerritos Library second annual Writers Festival will be presented from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 in the library’s Skyline Room. The event features a high tea experience with a lunch by Porto’s bakery, and an author panel discussion followed by a book signing.

    Registration is $60 for members of the Friends of the Cerritos Library and $70 for non-members. Featured authors include Amy Meyerson (“The Love Scribe”), Elise Bryant (“It’s Elementary”), Jennifer Coburn (“The Girls of the Glimmer Factory”), María Amparo Escandón (“L.A. Weather”), Melissa Chadburn (“A Tiny Upward Shove”), and Naomi Hirahara (“Evergreen”).

    Registration for members of the Friends begins on Saturday, February 15 and registration for non-members opens on Saturday, March 1. Guests will be able to register online at friendsofthecerritoslibrary.eventbrite.com or by mailing a check to Friends of the City of Cerritos Library P.O. Box 3876 Cerritos, CA 90703. For payments submitted by check, please add a note with the guest’s name and telephone number or email address. Proceeds from this event will support the Friends of the Cerritos Library’s mission to promote the library in the community and raise funds for library programs and services.
